What we do
Voisty is a desktop voice dictation app that runs fully on your device — no cloud, no audio uploads. It works system-wide on macOS and Windows via a global hotkey. We always run the most accurate and modern on-device speech models available, and ship updates as soon as new state-of-the-art models are released — so you never fall behind the latest research.

Why we cover this category
To ship Voisty, we have to track the dictation landscape closely. Every competitor's release notes, pricing changes, and feature announcements affect our roadmap. Over the years we've installed, configured, and stress-tested every major app in this space — Wispr Flow, Superwhisper, MacWhisper, VoiceInk, Voibe, Voicy, Apple Dictation, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Otter.ai, Whispering — across multiple operating systems and use cases.
That hands-on familiarity is what the comparisons here are built on. When we say one app handles offline transcription better than another, or that a particular tool struggles with technical vocabulary, it comes from real use, not paraphrased marketing copy.

How we evaluate apps
Every app we cover is reviewed against the same set of axes so our comparisons stay apples-to-apples. The core criteria:
- Privacy & offline mode. Whether audio stays on the device or is uploaded to a cloud service — verified by inspecting network traffic and the app's data policy.
- Platform coverage. macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, web — what's actually shipped, not what's promised.
- Pricing & long-term cost. Free-tier limits, monthly, yearly, and lifetime options. Numbers are taken from each app's pricing page; 5-year totals are calculated, not estimated.
- Accuracy & speed in real workflows. Live dictation latency, accuracy on technical vocabulary, behavior with code, prompts, and casual prose.
- Language support. Number of dictation languages and quality of non-English output.
- Workflow fit. Whether the tool is a system-wide live-dictation app, a file transcription utility, or a meeting capture service — different jobs, different picks.
Articles are kept current as apps change pricing or platform support. Older articles are revisited and updated when we notice something has shifted.
